Apple-less

Well, Thor, the mighty Quicksilver PowerMac, refused to boot today... So, I'm out of Apple boxes at the moment...
Guess I'll have to go thru the whole PMU, SMC, & PRAM thing but I can't today.
Besides, the box its, to put it simply, a sound & heat monster generator; I was only using it for iTunes and iPod; but testes using the iPod with Linux and it wasn't much of a problem...

Burns & wars

Been watching an amazing documentary, The Civil War, this is the second documentary I saw by Ken Burns, the other one was The War.
This one is really interesting, specially for me, since I knew very little of the US civil war.

Farewell, MBP

Sold my MBP this week, and delivered it today.
Sad to say, but it won't be missed, because of Snow Leopard most of all, hopefully the new owner will make good use out of it.
To me the future looks Linux, Linux and more Linux.

Back onto the PPC gang

I love Tiger, and specially love it on this monitor.
The beast might have something like six to eight years (if not more) not to mention Thor, my beloved Quicksilver; but well I'll be damned if those still two aren't performing like day one.

Some Tiger re-install links

Some links I've come accross while re-installing Tiger on these Lion (and 64 bits) only days...

The last one is the "toughest one", as it is the one that will force me to re-install in order to be able to use File Vault.

VirtualBox annoyances (yes, the Trisquel thing goes on...)

Yesterday tried to create a quick VirtualBox image on Sojourner in order to be able to -finally- get those icons and the wallpaper...

Found out, totally by accident, that there is a bug with VirtualBox and the EXT4 file system... This says a lot about how much virtualization I use... Actually, I use it quite a lot, but I mostly drag the same Windows 2000 Pro vdi image from box to box (and OS to OS) for over a two year now, talk about portability :)

In the end, had to create that VirtualBox image on Trantor, and then remove the icons, BTW, they weren't that spectacular, but I like the wallpaper, specially the blue one, a definitive keep.

A couple of screenshots from the process:

SU Mystery Theater (31)

A couple of updates for this cold Saturday.
Only one installed, the other update still tries to find a way into my beloved MBP, but I don't see the need for it so far.
Strangely enough, this Security update didn't need a reboot after the installation, I'm pretty sure the update itself has something todo with that MAC Defender crap.

SU Mystery Theater (30)

A strange, or mysterious one indeed, specially since I don't have any of the programs this update is destined to installed on my lappie.
Did not install, at least yet.

SU Mystery Theater (28)

This is the PPC edition!
Installed a new Safari on Thor, boy, sure haven't used my Quicksilver in quite a while... What an amazing piece of machinery! And Tiger, for the love of Christ! From my point of view Tiger is what a OS should have as GUI, no questions asked!
Yes, the hulking beast makes more noise than a mule, but I love it.

SU Mystery Theater (26)

Installed a bunch of updates on Trantor last night.
Luckily there were no problem at all after a reboot and a Suspend, everything seems to be working just fine, including the mighty Mighty Mouse and its APE keep on punching on Snow Leopard.

Installed these updates today, all of them in a whiff, no problems so far, after a reboot and a sleep.

Even Mighty Mouse seems to be working A Ok.

Balrog is no more (with me)

Being perhaps a little too busy lately, not much time to post around here on Oesediez...
The other day, about a week ago sold my lovely PB 12", mostly because I wasn't using it at all, so I gave it to someone who will give it a new life and a new love.
It served me well, but I really haven't used it that much, got 400 U$S for it, a nice deal I think, 512 MB RAM, a maxxed HDD with 120 GB, and 2 batteries (one pretty much beat up and the other one a new one, a replacement I got under the Apple umbrella)

Samba copy sucks

Today copied a few isos from a Windows 2K box to Trantor, via Samba share on the PowerBook, boy that sucks...
