Movies During The Weekend

Fail Safe:
Saw this one about a decade ago or so, it was a new one for the GF.
I have to say an amazing cinematography, the movie wet our appetite for (re) watching Dr. Strangelove.

Death Wish:
This was the original one, 1974 one, we watched the 2018 remake a couple of weeks ago.
Not sure, I might have seen this movie years ago, but, if I did, it was like watching it for the first time.
For today's standards it is slow, I liked the newer one.

The Vietnam War:
Yeah, the same one, but this time the local Netflix has it, so the subs work perfectly this time around.

Another Bowden

Keeping up with the "Viet Nam study group", last Saturday started with Mark Bowden's latests Hue 1968.
A really hefty book to say the least, I'm about 10% so far, and loving it.
this is my fifth Bowden (digital) book, read many years ago one on paper.

Ménage à Trois

Taken last night, what you might call a heavy duty night.
Wasting time with three old friends.
The Dell is connected thru HDMI to the TV while watching Ken Burns The Vietnam War, the T420 is the general purpose one and the X220 hanging around the with the bunch.

The Viet Name War

At last!
Watching Ken Burns' The Vietnam War on Youtube (thanks a bunch to whoever uploaded those!!!) on the TV thru the Roku 3.
Guess I heard about this documentary for the first tine on 2012 or so, and after seeing his masterpiece The War, I wanted to see this one ever since.
Even tho I love Ken Burns docs, I think the flash forwards on the first episode were not really necessary... IMHO those were sort of a bait, something to assure audiences that the doc will be focusing more on the USA part soon.

An Amazing Week For Documentaries

I love PBS (and Ken Burns) documentaries, I can't say that enough times, over the years I've posted a lot about that in here.
But this last week it was amazing.
The Roku PBS channel aired (streamed?) a lot of really interesting ones... I got to see:
  • Walt Disney
A three hour one, interesting to sat the least, specially when it shows the creation of Walt Disney World.
  • In Their Own Words: Jim Henson
Not only because of The Muppets, but also for The Dark Crystal and Labyrinth.
  • The Civil War
I've seen this one before, but this is the special, 25 years Restored Special Edition.
A must see, IMHO.

Burns, Burns & more Burns

Lots of Ken Burns documentaries lately.
Getting up to date with the latest two of him:

  • Prohibition
  • The Dust Bowl

I've specially liked the last one.

Go West

Taking a little rest from The X Files.
Even tho the week work wise has been a freaking nightmare, took the time to Netflix another Ken Burns documentary.

God is in Heaven,
The Pope is at the Vatican,
The King is in Madrid,
The Viceroy's in Mexico City,
And to hell with you.
I'm in San Antonio.

This one is not really made by, but actually presented by Ken Burns. Still have ther more episodes to go.

The Real Unknown

Just netflixed Lewis & Clark: The Journey of the Corps of Discovery.
The amazing Ken Burns documentary fills in -with amazing landscape cinematography- pretty well the Ambrose book I read almost 3 years ago.

Burns & wars

Been watching an amazing documentary, The Civil War, this is the second documentary I saw by Ken Burns, the other one was The War.
This one is really interesting, specially for me, since I knew very little of the US civil war.
