Spotty WiFi with The Wireless 4965 AG or AGN

The internet browsing experience on the little Dell M1330 was beyond awful, slow, intermittent, etc, a real PITA.
So a big of Google, and then, the magic started...
Had to edit the file:

/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
And then reboot the little lappie.
The file ended up like this:

[connection]
## wifi.powersave = 3
wifi.powersave = 2
So, a reboot later, and things look much, much better... Will keep testing for a couple of days to see how this goes.

In Praise of The Dell XPS M1330

Well, yeah, it is old as hell, and it is rocking nothing more than a Core2 Duo, but the little lappie does perform, still after all that has been through.
I got this one ages ago, and has been around the block -to say the least- quite a few times.
The biggest drawback is its keyboard, it flexes like hell, really, really annoying... I've tried more than a few times fix it, to no avail.
Also, the light color of the keyboard is a gunk magnet (specially the sides of the keys), or at least, it makes it really easy for it to show up.
But, ITOH, this is an amazing little laptop, which is extremely easy to do maintenance on it. To actually reach the CPU/ Fan assembly you simply remove a couple of screws on the bottom.
Also, the LCD is really good and crisp, glossy and 1280 x 800, of course, but I can't complaint, for my tired eyes that resolution is really good.
Running with an SSD and 8 GB RAM (AFAIK it can't handle any more, but, also, I'm not sure there are DDR2 modules bigger than 8 GB) and it flies, occasionally the fan kicks on like a screeching monkey, but that's it.

288K and counting!

And another thousand up.
Yes, I'm progressing way slower than I used to, but, what a hell... Who's counting anyway, right?

The current Linux Mint desktop

Been a while since I posted the Linux Mint desktop on my beloved Dell XPS M1330, to be honest, nothing has really changed a lot, except for the weather...
On the screenshot of the last Linux Mint desktop post, Buenos Aires was "enduring" an amazing 5 degrees Celsius nowadays we're ten degrees above that...

The current Linux Mint desktop

In the same track as to what my desktop looks on my other lappies and Linux distros at the moment.
The lovely and mighty Adapta theme, with the Papirus icons and a flat wallpaper with a pretty decent font (for my old tired eyes that is).

Movies During The Weekend

Sweet Mother of Jeebus!
We certainly watched a shitload of movies last weekend!
Winter, and specially a totally crappy cloudy and humid weather, certainly helps a lot.

When They See Us:
Got to see this one bt chance, I've tried to watch it earlier, but fell sleep.
We got to gulf down the thing in one go, and it was rather good.

She's So Lovely:
Wanted to re-watch (I guess?) this one for quite a while, back from the 90's when everyone was indie.
Did not liked it, it aged badly.

The Mean Season:
This one for the GF, who hates winter, so she has a glimpse of the brutal Miami summer.
Good movie, I haven't seen it in I don't know how many years, maybe 20.

Krampus:
The GF wanted to see this one, as she is on the quest of seeing every movie that Michael Dougherty made... Yes, he is the director of the last Godzilla movie, a flick that she loved, of course.

Back to Mint, Back to Life

Yesterday and part of today was devoted to migrate to Linux Mint two lappies that were sporting Debian Stretch.
Not really a problem with Stretch, in fact, it was really cool and light, but since I needed to re-install on those two, decided to go ahead and install a release that will get updates up until 2023, instead of Stretch's 2020.

Re-enforcing The Back-plate of The Dell XPS M1330 (3)

Well, what I did the other day was a bit too much...
So, it was time to make things a little better...
Got an old busted Tupperware lid, slashed it with some pliers and a huge scissor, got rid of all the crap I've placed under the keyboard and replaced with this nice, clean pieces of plastic.

Re-enforcing The Back-plate of The Dell XPS M1330 (2)

Yeap, but Ghetto Style, duders!
Another shot at getting the Dell's keyboard to not flex (at all)...
Will see how this thing goes... The lappie (of course) works A Ok after adding all that crap, in fact, I'm posting from it right now.

Those Pesky Rubber Feet

Replaced one on the lappie today, it was dry as a desert, and smearing everything it touched, the GF complained all the time that it was effing up here white table.
Got the "new one" from the old -totally depleted- battery.

Juggling RAM Around (3)

Or Reduce & Reuse... Time to shuffle the RAM around, once again.
This time it was the turn for the Dell XPS M1330 and the MacBook White, the XPS went from 8 GB to 6 GB, and the MacBook White maxxed to 6 GB.
So far so good.

Ghetto Riser/ Ghetto Cooler

Added a couple of bottle caps to the bottom of the lappie, in order to have better cooling, they are sot of stuck there with a bit of play-do, yeap, as ghetto as it can be, it works.

Re-enforcing The Back-plate of The Dell XPS M1330

The keyboard on this lappie was a bit flaky, more like with flexing, with a lot of flexing... Specially around the upper left area, really annoying when you hit the Esc key.
So, what I did to add a little bit if stiff was pop it open and add a couple of threads of a somehow thick tape I had around.
The thing added a less than a milliliter thickness (or more like firmness) but it helped a lot.

Gazillion of Updates on Stable

Loads of updates yesterday... First time I see that many updates on one shot on Stable.
Of course, no problem whatsoever after installing everything and rebooting, so far installed these on the XPS M1330 (pictured) as well as the Optiplex 755.

Lazy, Rainy Saturday Afternoon

Yes, all of that on a single picture.
Rained like hell the whole fucking day.
Not much to write home about it.... The GF's T410 on the left, and the M1330 on the right, but of them proudly running Linux, of course.
