L'Effondrement

Yesterday the GF mentioned me a new French mini-series, L'Effondrement (The Collapse).
Since she, of course, knows I have a thing for Post Apocalyptic movies and books, thought that I might find it something worth watching.
It certainly was.
Only 8 episodes, some 30 minutes or less long each one, and, get this, all of them shot in real time on a single shot.
One thing tho, the last episode really ruins the whole thing, at least, IMHO.
Watching this while riding the CV19 wave doesn't help ;)

Random Shit I've Been Watching Lately

Actually this is more like, "Random Netflix Shit I've Been Watching Lately"...

Narcos: Mexico:
Love this show, the first season was really good, but this one -and there might even be a pattern here...- it seems a bit too long.
For instance, the whole story of the member who wants to leva the gam ebehind seems quite longish.

Don't F*ck With Cats:
Pretty interesting doc, but, once again, IMHO, it is a bit too long.

Horse Girl:
A total and complete bullshit... What was the point of this????

Movies During The Weekend

Yes! We managed to watch a movie during past weekend. It was really hard to actually see a damn movie with the GF during this summer... Lots of bike riding and asados.

Parasite:
Lovely movie, quite entertaining, suspenseful and with a lot of plot twists.

Random Shit I've Been Watching Lately

A couple of movies I've been watching lately, while the GF is away.

Powder:
A re-watch, it was a total bummer, don't even know I even bother to watch it once again.

Lone Star:
Love it, although it was a bit too longish, and, IMHO, it tried to hold too much.

The Report:
Started this one with the GF a couple of weeks ago, but we couldn't finish because of lack of time.
A good, modern one.

Midway:
The new one, the one that looks like video game, made on 2019.
A total crap.

The Host:
Maybe the best of the bunch, the GF suggested this one, she obviously loves it, and as a way of paving the way for seeing "Parasites".

American Me:
A re-watch, I recall this one from many, many years ago, I loved it when I saw it, guess around '93 or so.
But, it didn't made it for me... I was amazed by how many close ups they were on the movie.

Journey To The Edge Of The Universe:
Yeah, it is a nice enough doc, but nothing that seeing the original Cosmos wouldn't cover already, maybe with newer graphics and some recent discoveries, but the core of is essentially the same thing.

(No) Movies During The Weekend

We aren't watching any movie lately.
We are spending a lot of time outdoors, mostly riding our bicycles and we are pretty much wasted once we hit the bed to see movies, we usually go straight to sleep.
Guess movies will have to wait until the weather turns bad once again.

Movies During The Weekend

Another time, only one movie during the weekend, but, again, a very cool one.

The Lighthouse:
A really interesting movie.
From the director that made The VVitch, although The Lighthouse is not as scary as the other one.
The GF loved it, but for me it was a bit too slow and too much sometimes, Dafoe is, as always, amazing on this one.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie this past weekend, lots of stuff to do, as the holidays were here, as well as the GF birthday.

Rambo: Last Blood
Nope, did not like it at all, I was expecting a lot more from it.
IMHO, the last two Rambo movies are a piece of shit.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie last weekend, but a very good one.

Joker:
Really well made with amazing cinematography, but, personally, I prefer the Joker's genesis from the the first Tim Burton Batman movie.
The GF loved it.

(Per (Really) Ardua) Ad Astra

Last night it was another movie night... Had to reboot (kernel reboot) a couple of servers during the night, so I had to make time until the wee hours.

Ad Astra:
Damn it was bad, long and boring.
Not much to add, a total disappointment, I was really expecting a lot more out of this one.

Happy to say, the reboots went well.

Kilo Twelve Bravo

12 Strong:
Saw it last night, not sure why I missed this one before.
Anyways, I was sort of expecting something like Kilo Two Bravo, but it fell short, nevertheless, pretty interesting story.
As a side note, that bold William Fitchner freaked the hell out of me.

Movies During The Weekend

Actually, only one, but it is a huge step forward, as we weren't watching any movie lately.

Once Upon a Time... In Hollywood:
I'm not a big fan of Q. Tarantino movies, and well this one isn't an exception.
Even tho they are two movies on this one, the second one starts -IMHO- when they return from Italy is a bit better than the first one, which was slow, loooooong and over indulgent.
The second one, violent and so Anti PC that  is ridiculously funny.
The GF loved it, specially the second movie, but she's a Tarantino die hard.

(No) Movies During The Weekend(s)

Haven't posted about movie weekend in quite a while simply because lately we aren't watching any movie with the GF during the weekends.
One of the drawbacks of (almost) summer, I guess... Nice weather, outdoor activities (mostly bicycle rides and asados) and no time to watch movies...

Re-Rogue One

Re-watched Rogue One last night, was toying with the idea of doing so for quite some time, as I simply love it.
Never understood why Disney was able to green light such a good movie, and then simply destroy the franchise with the other Star Wars movies that followed it... For a while I was under the impression that they were going in two directions, the one that pushed the franchise forward (with bad movies) and then the one that expanded the franchise Universe (with somehow better movies)...
But, then they released Solo: A Star Wars Story, and my theory went to hell.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie this weekend, a rather atypical weekend I might say.

Midsommar:
Visually stunning, longish film.
made by the same director who directed Hereditary, which IMHO, it was better than this one.
The GF completely loved it.

Movies During The Weekend

We had a relaxed, sunny (somewhat hot) weekend, so not much time for movies, but, nevertheless, we watched some.

Star Trek Discovery:
Our weekly episode, but, boy oh boy, it is getting harder and harder.... This season sucks so much, at least so far (we are on episode 11).

Crawl:
Nice one, plenty of action and thrills.
Both the GF and I were waiting for this one ever since we saw the trailer.

Movies During The Weekend

Not many movies, actually more like only one, a documentary, but with many episodes.

The Defiant Ones:
Really interesting doc, I would never thought I might find the subject matter even remotely related, or something that I would watch, but, the GF did, and she emphatically recommend it to me.
And she was dam right.
I loved the doc, specially the first two episodes, as I love Tom Petty, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Nicks too.
Also, I had a very vague notion of who Dr. Dre was, but I had no idea who Jimmy Iovine was and that he had produced some of my favorite musicians.

Movies During The Weekend

A lot of movies this past weekend.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu:
The GF wanted to see this one.
Lots and lots of neon a lá cyberpunk, but with a heavy comedic side, as per the original Pokémon thing, I can't dink, as I don't know anything about it, this was the first time I saw it.

Rocketman:
Nice one. sort of a warm counter-part to "Bohemian Rhapsody".
Both the GF and I liked this one a lot, even tho I don't particularly like Elton John songs, except maybe for Tiny Dancer on "Almost Famous".

Wolfen:
Wow and double wow! What a wonderful mix of just about anything thrown onto a single movie!
Haven't seeing this one in ages and ages, I didn't even remember a thing about all the political subplot, it was like seeing it for the first time; the GF, indeed, saw it for the first time.
Guess you can say it aged well.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie during last weekend, but a really cool one.

Brightburn:
Both the GF and I loved this one.
Starts like your regular indie terror flick, but goes beyond that, scratching even the gore genre for a little bit.
Interesting as hell.

Movies During The Weekend

Lots of movies during last weekend... A diverse bunch.

The Beach Bum:
A cool one, and indie for the cool kids gang.

Godzilla King of The Monsters:
Of course, the GF wanted this one, even tho she already saw this one on the big screen a couple of months ago.

Avengers Endgame:
Man, what a bummer... Unbelievable this movie was such a hit.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie, and not a very good one either.

Hellboy:
Yeap, the new one, the "rebooted" one.
Boring as hell, get it? Not good, not even the GF liked it, even we liked the previous movies.
It is kinda gorier than other ones and this new Hellboy does look hellish and more demonic, but nevertheless the movie does kinda suck.
