The Current Debian Desktop

Another screenshot of the Optiplex 755 sporting the Debian Stretch installation.
I've said before, but this monitor and resolution is amazingly comfy to work on.

Sunday Night Milangas

Ok, yes, once again, this past weekend was a little unusual, food-wise, that is...
So, milanesas on a Sunday night, with amazing home made fried potatoes and on top of that, fried sweet potatoes as well, everything, as usual, lovingly made by the GF.
The mushrooms were and added made by me, of course, not endorsed by the GF.

Movies During The Weekend

Terror and violence this past weekend, with a touch of a classic as well.

Habit:
The GF wanted to see this one.
I slept most of it, pretty boring I have to say... I was expecting vampires, but they were only canibals.

Hereditary:
Mighty good one, the best of the this bunch, no questions asked.
And scary as hell, too. Colette steals the show.

Sicario: Day of the Soldier:
Really cool one, but the first one was better.
Towards the end, it sort of becomes Terminator.

The King of Marvin Gardens:
Nice to re-watch this one, and on FHD this time.

Debian Stretch on The Optiplex 755

Installed on the mighty Optiplex 755 past Friday, as part of the Debian Everywhere directive :p
As usual with the Optiplex, I'm using the old Apple Cinema Display monitor, with the ADC to DVI adapter.
Installation went fine, as usual, and usual, went the path of an encrypted LVM.
Everything works Ok on Debian, but, as it happened with every single distro I've used with this monitor/ adapter combination, some of the booting messages/ screens aren't displayed.
For instance, on Debian, you can see GRUB's kernel menu, but the LVM pass-phrase screen doesn't show up.
But, that is just for the booting, once the whole system is up and running, everything works A Ok, proper resolution, sound, etc, etc.
And of course, the system goes (and comes back from) Suspend without any error or problems.

Saturday Night Pasta

Ok... Yeah... Once again, pasta on a Saturday.
But this time a magnificent pineapple pizza, that I drowned with some mushrooms (uncooked).
Only my half has 'sh-rooms as the GF hates them.

Debian Stretch on the Thinkpad T420

As part of the Debian Everywhere, last Thursday installed Debian (Stretch) on the T420, replacing Linux Mint 18.
The install went (as usual) smooth as hell, of course there is no WiFi until you install, via non-free repos, the firmware-iwlwifi package.
Ths particular WiFi card it is a bit spotty out of the box, so it needs a tweak on the /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf file, used exactly the same snippet I was already using on LM 18 and it worked perfectly.
As usual, the plain vanilla encrypted LVM and everyhing is peachy.
The only "problem" I found so far was disabling Bluetooth (don't use it at all), so far I haven't been able to disable it automagically. Besides don't using it, I hate the damn LED being turned on all the time.

Another Robinson

Last Thursday finished "The Wild Shore", loved it, specially the first chapters, towards the end it gets sort of kinda boring.
So, just like another K. Stanley Robinson book is gone, guess the one that got harder to finish for me was "The Years of Rice and Salt", but all of those were at least interesting.
Started right away a new one, "Masters of The Air".

Movies During The Weekend

A fuck load of movies during this past weekend...

Smithereens:
There is nothing wrong with a bit of early 80's punk and independent movie making, every weekend should have a bit of those.

The Seventh Sign:
Nice one, not terror, but close... Anchia's cinematography is really, really cool, all those 80's pastel merge (or morph) quite good onto a more somber stuff.

Serpico:
A re-watch for me, first time for the GF.
Damn I'm glad I was a little kid on the early 70's... The fashion was dismal.

Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom:
Why? Why? There was no need for this... Really.

The Orville:
We continued our journey, and we are just one episode shy of finishing the first season.

Another screenshot, love theming this Debian setup.
Only thing that drives me nut of this one is the WiFi icon on the Panel, that refuses to switch to a dark version.

The Current Debian Desktop

The current situation on the T60, with its newest SSD drive, running Debian.
Damn if don't love this setup... Everything looks and feels amazing, even the again T60 seems kinda snappy, except for Chromium.
With a sort of look a like Xubuntu theme going on, but not really.
The theme on this one is CobiBird, as opposed to Greybird.

Yeah, well... Kinda of an mix of genres and movies during last weekend...

Sad Vacation:
Nice doc, but "Sid & Nancy" is waaaay better.
The GF slept thru this one.

Le Mepris:
Wanted to re-watch this one for quite a while.
The GF slept thru this one.

The Detective:
Wow... Talk about sign of the times... Nowadays people'll burn cinemas if the show this one.
The GF loves Frankie, so we wanted to see this one.

Skycrapper:
Oh boy... I kinda slept thru right this one.

Hard Eight:
Paul Thomas Anderson always delivers.

The Orville:
Watched a couple of more episodes... The end is near, may the Second Season arrive soon!

Debian Everywhere

And now it was the turn of the mighty T60... Changed the HDD, so...
Good bye Devuan, hello Debian...
Nothing personal, I just think it makes more sense to run Debian at the moment.
The install, went with regular net-installer, went smooth as silk, the usual stuff... The WiFi doesn't work out of the box, it needs the non-free repositories, and encrypted LVM, so I can keep using Dropbox and XFCE, baby.

Saturday Night Milangas

Things are back to normal, the flu is over.
So, last night it was time for milanesas, but not just regular milanesas, the GF lovingly made home cooked Milanesas Napolitanas, effing drowning them on mozzarella cheese.

Malocchio Malohardware

Hate using glasses, but I love this piece of crap ones, at least are the only comfortable ones I had so far.
I hate glasses because is just another crap to carry around all the time, and they get dirty, wet, foggy, etc.
Hard to believe, but it is been two years and then some already...

Movies During The Weekend

Well, Hell, the flu really took its toll during the weekend... We only watched a couple of movies, also, of course, disrupted our traditional meals. A complete fuck up.

Space Truckers:
I thought this was funnier. Nice Alien (and you name it) mix-a-lot, but nothing else.

Ocean's Eight:
A cool one, literally, a cool one.
