Compton: Funky Double Shadow on Evolution menus

Started playing a bit with Compton, and I've noticed an annoying double shadow with the menus on Evolution (picture on the right).
To get rid of those, add this to the ~/.config/compton.conf file:

 "class_g ?= 'Evolution'",

On the shadow exclude options section of the configuration.
Close Evolution, restart Compton and start Evolution once again and the menus will have a proper drop shadow (picture on the left).
Be aware that after issuing this snip on the config file, you'll loose the drop shadow effect on all Evolution windows, but, IMHO, that's a small price to pay to get rid of that awful double shadow on menus.

Movies During The Weekend

Sweet Mother of Jeebus!
We certainly watched a shitload of movies last weekend!
Winter, and specially a totally crappy cloudy and humid weather, certainly helps a lot.

When They See Us:
Got to see this one bt chance, I've tried to watch it earlier, but fell sleep.
We got to gulf down the thing in one go, and it was rather good.

She's So Lovely:
Wanted to re-watch (I guess?) this one for quite a while, back from the 90's when everyone was indie.
Did not liked it, it aged badly.

The Mean Season:
This one for the GF, who hates winter, so she has a glimpse of the brutal Miami summer.
Good movie, I haven't seen it in I don't know how many years, maybe 20.

Krampus:
The GF wanted to see this one, as she is on the quest of seeing every movie that Michael Dougherty made... Yes, he is the director of the last Godzilla movie, a flick that she loved, of course.

Sunday Night Pasta

Pasta on incredibly foggy night, back again with a lot of boiled carrots and then everything drowned with the world famous GF Stew, simply delicious.

Movies During My Birthday

Two movies last Wednesday/ Thursday... That is, during my birthday.

Swingers:
Beautiful movie, saw years ago and it aged really, really well.
The GF loved it, a chick flick -practically- without girls also, she found the soundtrack amazing.

Don't Look Now:
Not sure if I saw this one, maybe when I was younger.
We didn't like it much to be honest, maybe we were very tired, but it was a bit on the longish side and way too psychedelic.

Saturday Night Milangas

This time, with an extra soup on the side...
A mighty good set of milanesas with oven cooked  potatoes (the all mighty Saturday classic) on a frigid and extremely humid Sunday, yes... Very, very early last Sunday.

At last the effing humidity died!
Also, at last, the sun is here... Along with the cold and wind.
Cold, dry, windy and sunny weather: Nirvana.

XFCE + i3 (on Sid & LM 19)

So, installed i3 on both Sid and on Linux Mint 19, as an add on of XFCE, just as an experiment and to see how things how.
I do have a full i3 lappie, the glorious T43, but I wanna see how everything goes running i3 along XFCE... There are a couple of site on the internet with instructions, but those are sort of "Xubuntu centrist" and they also give you advise regarding installing third party PPAs, but I don't want to do that.
What I did was to install a "minimal i3", like this:

sudo apt install i3 --no-install-recommends

After that, simply disabled (set to Never) "xfwm4" and "xfdesktop" on Session and then on Application Autostart, add an entry to start i3.

Logout and back in and you are done.

Or almost...

On Debian Sid:
You can use the Windows key as the $modifier.

On Linux Mint 19 (XFCE):
You have to use Alt as the $modifier. or all Hell breaks loose.

On both of them:
Edit the "~/.config/i3/config" file and comment the 'bar' entry, it is at the end of the file, if you don't you'll have the i3 Status bar (printing an error) as well as the XFCE Panel.

Movies During The Weekend

F*ck load of movies during the weekend! After all, it rained like hell (on top of a country wide blackout) so, when we had electricity, we had plenty of time to watch movies.

Cujo:
Wow, I haven't seeing this one in decades... It certainly aged really well.
It was a first for the GF, as she sort of hates dogs.

Xanadu:
Man oh man... What can I say about this one?
It was, simply put, put of this freaking world... I can't believe they actually made that movie.

Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack:
This one was obviously a GF Flick, I've watch just a bit here and there.
Lots and lots of scale models are destroyed on this one.

Chernobyl:
We absolutely and completely loved this one.
Binged watched the five episodes on one day.

Debian Sid Installation Tidbits (T60p & T43)

Some notes of the install process on both the T60p and the T43

After making a Debian net install from a Debian 9, choosing only the "SSH Server" and the "Standard System Utilities" options upon the Software Selection.
After the install is over (on an encrypted LVM, of course) installed:

sudo apt-get install sudo zile

Yes, sudo, I'm an old fart and I like to have a root account around, of course, closed to SSH, also I like to use Zile a lot, a minimal Emacs.
Then, with that installed, edited the "/etc/apt/sources.list" file, to look like this:

deb http://debian.unnoba.edu.ar/debian/ sid main
deb-src http://debian.unnoba.edu.ar/debian/ sid main

All the other entries are commented... If you are using proprietary drivers, the "/etc/apt/sources.list" file looks like this:

deb http://debian.unnoba.edu.ar/debian/ sid main
deb-src http://debian.unnoba.edu.ar/debian/ sid main

## Non Free
deb http://http.us.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free
deb-src http://http.us.debian.org/debian sid main contrib non-free

Again, all the other entries on the file are commented...
Proprietary drivers or not, after editing the file, issue a:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo apt-get autoremove

Then reboot the box:

sudo reboot

Some other programs I've installed to complete the setup:

sudo apt install apt-listbugs apt-listchanges
sudo apt install alsa-utils
(alsamixer to unmute (m) and then speaker-test to check buttons)
sudo apt install xorg
sudo apt install i3
sudo apt install links2
sudo apt install pmount (to mount USB drives as regular user)

(No) Movies During The Weekend

Well, we couldn't watch a single movie this past weekend... Unbelievable, no matter we are on the verge of winter, we did not have time for it.
This weekend promises rain (a lot, and everyday) on top of that Monday is a holiday, so most likely we'll be able to watch some movies.

Dreadful Mirror

Man, what a magnificent way of destroying a franchise!
I loved Black Mirror right from the start (Link 1) and watched the following seasons (Link 2 & Link 3), but damn if the latest one is not a complete piece of stinking shit.
What a hell were they thinking? And only 3 episodes? I mean... C'mon, dudes! If you'are going to kill one of your best products, at least do it with some grandeur.

The Sid Week

So, finally, Debian won... Sorry Void.
This past week installed Debian Sid on both the T60p and the T43, on the latter one, the little lappie that still delivers and that had its guts cleansed, installed i3, just for shit and giggles.
Boy oh boy, I have to say that I love that Window Manager...
Certainly see the myself using it a lot on the near future.
Also, I love how the T60p looks in this picture.

The Current Android Desktop

Well, I finally had to cave in...
Had to set the fonts, the whole thing actually, to "Big", even tho with the setting set to small everything looked amazing, it was way too much for my poor old and tired eyes...
So, in the end what I did was to simply get rid of everyone and all of the icons on my beloved Moto's Desktop, only kept the ones in the bottom, which are the most used ones to begin with.
Here is an old screenshot of how the Desktop looked historically, eve tho it is two years old, I didn't change a bit of it once I settle for that.

Movies During The Weekend

Two movies during the weekend.

A Star Is Born:
Man, this movie sucks! Big Time.
Boring, long, obvious... That, and also we couldn't understand a thing of what the male character was saying.
Both the GF and I hate it, to the bone.

Captain Marvel:
Really good, funny and unlike many, many, many movies nowadays, it deals with the meta-physic BS that everyone adds to try to give depth, quick at the beginning and after that it gets pretty funny, specially on everything that deals with the young Nick Fury and the little kitten.
I was sort of expecting a complete and utter bomb, but, then again, I wasn't even aware there was such thing as a Captain Marvel (male or female) to begin with...
Both the GF and I loved it.

As usual, wonderfully made by the GF.

Void Linux on The Thinkpad T43

After de-gunking the hell out of it, installed Void (once again), just for shit and giggles.
No problem at all with the install, running XFCE, of course.
Now, I have to get somethings up and running on the little lappie... Will see if I have time next week.

This Time For Good

Thursday night busted my beloved eye glasses -once again (Link 1, Link 2, Link 3) -...
I guess this time, no matter how much I love this, they are gone, the GF won't let me use them, they are way too ghetto now.

De-gunking The CPU Fan of The T43

It was long overdue, but last night I finally did it.
Stripped open the old and by now mythic T43, re-pasted the CPU, but most importantly, cleaned the gunk from the fan vent, which has clogged to hell and back again.
The removed gunk can be seen on the right of the T43, besides the disgusting cotton ball used to clean the old thermal paste, it is that small grayish ball right by the green screwdriver.
