Saturday Night Chicken

So, summer is gone...
No possible asado on Saturday, as it rained on and off throughout the whole day, and the day before.
So the GF cooked a chicken with some potatoes on the oven, it was months since we had one of those... Specially the GF World Famous oven cooked potatoes, pure glory.
Seems like asados might be over for the duration. of winter, that is.

Taking advantage of a sunny Sunday to take the picture.

Evan Desperado

Just finished my second Evan Wright book, American Desperado.
Really good, gripping, to say the least, and of course, it deals with a subject matter (the main character an co-author was also balls deep onto the thing) from a pretty interesting documentary, Cocaine Cowboys.
After this one, jumped right onto another book, once again, a book by Mark Bowden, this time, Finder's Keepers.
Bowden and Wright seem to have pretty similar styles.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie (past weekend we watched zero movies...), but, a really, really good one.

The Old Man and The Gun:
A mixture of ole'good (late) Clint Eastwood and a bit of Wes Anderson, everything put together on a convenient and entertaining package.
Of course, both the GF and I loved this one.

XFCE: Start Dropbox on Login

This drove me nuts, because it failed randomly, so, a quick one liner added to the Session Startup seems to take care of this problem.

Sunday Night Pasta

This time with magnificent Stew, lovingly made by the GF!
As usual, ricotta raviolis with sliced cheese and carrots, this time, the few ones that survived the Saturday Night Asado.
And, of course, last but not least, The Stew.

So... (Goodbye) Cinnamon...

The Cinnamon thing didn't last long...
Slapped an SSD on the T60p, and went the XFCE way today.

Saturday Night Asado

Mighty bife de chorizo with grilled carrots on the side.
Also, we gulfed down a baby choripán right before the bife.
We (specially the GF) are enjoying our last asado before the weather goes to hell, but so far, so good.

Back to Mint, Back to Life

Yesterday and part of today was devoted to migrate to Linux Mint two lappies that were sporting Debian Stretch.
Not really a problem with Stretch, in fact, it was really cool and light, but since I needed to re-install on those two, decided to go ahead and install a release that will get updates up until 2023, instead of Stretch's 2020.

Summer, Always, Eternal Summer

The god damned from Hell effing summer doesn't want to get the fuck away from us...
Nearly 30 degrees today, I mean, c'mon man, get the hell out of here and give us some civilized weather once and for all... Stop busting our ball at least, until December.

So... Cinnamon...

Yeap... Some tests were performed... Need to replace the OS on a couple of lappies around here sooner than later, so, testing time!
Following a a very brief and very disastrous stint with Sid, gave a shot at Cinnamon, first on Debian Stretch and then on Linux Mint 18, mostly because that is the last Cinnamon version that I like, it is stupid, but that version is the last one AFAIK that still has the pointy menu.
Yeah, I know, it is stupid, but what a hell, the Computer is Personal since 1981 or so, right?
Kinda like my ongoing obsession with mouse cursor icon customization.
Cinnamon looks great (specially on the high resolution screen of the T60p) but compared to XFCE, the lack of options it is big, big no-no.

Mighty asado de chorizo time!
Also, add to the tab a wonderful chorizo, but it didn't make it to the picture, we wolfed it down right beside the grill.

The Current Debian Desktop

Been a while since I've posted a screenshot, so here it goes.
How things look at the Optiplex as of yesterday.
As usual, the lovely Numix icons, a long time companion of mine.
The window manager theme, Victory Med Dark, its been used because it offers better separation for the windows, since I'm not using an compositor and drop shadow effect.

Back Into The Reservation

Nope, definitively, I don't have to take the my Chromebooks onto Developer Mode...
After a short test with Crouton, I got the little Chromebook Pro back onto the full Google domains.

Yeap, I have done it in order to try to customize the damn mouse cursor shape, basically, to get rid, or rather, to change the dreadful I-Beam onto the lovely Arrow, but, again, I wasn't able to do, and this time it was even harder, Chrome OS no longer has any resemblance of a Linux file system hierarchy, at least, not in the traditional way... That is, there is no longer a /usr/share/cursors/xorg-x11/default/ directory... Not that being there helped at all in the past...
Anyways, back onto plain vanilla Chrome OS, I hate the mess that running Developer Mode does, and I think it doesn't makes or gives any advantage, since I can't do what I want with the OS.
I know it is stupid, but I do want to have the mouse cursors the way I want them.

Movies During The Weekend

Another weekend with just one movie... Lots and lots of sunshine and bicycle rides don't go along well with our movie watching.
Maybe the thing will change once the cold kicks in for good around here.

Velvet Buzzsaw:
Not my thing, or maybe I was too tired... I did enjoyed Nightcrawler, way back when, tho.

Sunday Night Pasta

Our usual companions for a Sunday night, ricotta raviolis, with some grill cooked carrots and all of it drowned on grilled cheese.
The stew, is once again, a plain vanilla over the counter one -with the added of some sour cream-, the GF didn't have time to cook here world famous stew yet.

Wanted to see this one for quite sometime, and, of course, both the GF and I simply loved it.

To Developer, Crouton and Beyond!

On Monday switched the Chromebook Pro to Developer Mode and today installed Linux via Crouton.
Used this options to make the install:

sudo sh ~/Downloads/crouton -r sid -t\ xfce,touch,chrome,extension,keyboard -e

But it failed because:

touch target is not supported on Debian.

So I finally used this install options:

sudo sh ~/Downloads/crouton -r xenial\
-t xfce,touch,chrome,extension,keyboard -e

The install itself it was breeze, I mean, there were no problems whatsoever, but it took something like 4 hours to download and install the whole shebang.
I'm currently running stuff on this new Crouton thing on the Chromebook Pro, to determine if I keep it or I nuke the whole thing and then disable Developer Mode to revert the whole thing and head back to the reservation.

Band of The Gentrification

So, last night the GF and I were watching "Band of The Hand" (she obviously loves me), a re-watch for me (saw that one on a theater when I was a kid) and we were chatting and bullshitting about the settings, and how much did Miami changed over the years.
Well, I wanted to see if I could locate the locations, and according to a comment on IMDB's Trivia page of the movie, they used the park on Collins and 2nd Street, exactly here.
It turns out the Band's house is no longer there, but the building right on the corner is there, as well as the park, and the other building on the opposite corner.
Effing unbelievable how much that part of Miami Beach changed.

Saturday Night Chicken

No asado for this particular Saturday night... But, then again, the GF made some magnificent sliced chicken breasts with mushrooms, mustard and sour cream, with some rice as topping.
Asado, this time, will be on Sunday afternoon, as a special occasion.
