L'Effondrement

Yesterday the GF mentioned me a new French mini-series, L'Effondrement (The Collapse).

Since she, of course, knows I have a thing for Post Apocalyptic movies and books, thought that I might find it something worth watching.
It certainly was.
Only 8 episodes, some 30 minutes or less long each one, and, get this, all of them shot in real time on a single shot.
One thing tho, the last episode really ruins the whole thing, at least, IMHO.

Watching this while riding the CV19 wave doesn't help ;)

Random Shit I've Been Watching Lately

Actually this is more like, "Random Netflix Shit I've Been Watching Lately"...

Narcos: Mexico:
Love this show, the first season was really good, but this one -and there might even be a pattern here...- it seems a bit too long.
For instance, the whole story of the member who wants to leva the gam ebehind seems quite longish.

Don't F*ck With Cats:
Pretty interesting doc, but, once again, IMHO, it is a bit too long.

Horse Girl:
A total and complete bullshit... What was the point of this????

Movies During The Weekend

A cool, relaxed weekend, in part because it rained like Hell on Saturday.
So, we did a bit of catch up, maybe forced, with a couple of TV shows.

Star Trek: Discovery:
We watched the two final episodes from Season 2, it was hard, but someone had to do it, I guess.
Not much to say about this, I guess... Except that, no, most definitively the last season doesn't do it, at all.

Project Blue Book:
I have been struggling with this one for the last 3 weeks, or so.
I'm a big fan of The X Files, at least of the mythological episodes; so I thought that this new series might be amazing, but it turned out to be quite dull and boring.
It was almost painful to go thru it.
A real shame, since it has everything to be fantastic.

Movies During The Weekend

We had a relaxed, sunny (somewhat hot) weekend, so not much time for movies, but, nevertheless, we watched some.

Star Trek Discovery:
Our weekly episode, but, boy oh boy, it is getting harder and harder.... This season sucks so much, at least so far (we are on episode 11).

Crawl:
Nice one, plenty of action and thrills.
Both the GF and I were waiting for this one ever since we saw the trailer.

Star Trek: Discovery
After a long, long time we started once again with the second season of Discovery.
It might look like, slowly, very slowly, this season might, maybe, perhaps, gets a little better...
I did enjoy the first one, but the second one got really, really boring.

Not many movies, actually more like only one, a documentary, but with many episodes.

The Defiant Ones:
Really interesting doc, I would never thought I might find the subject matter even remotely related, or something that I would watch, but, the GF did, and she emphatically recommend it to me.
And she was dam right.
I loved the doc, specially the first two episodes, as I love Tom Petty, Patti Smith, Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Nicks too.
Also, I had a very vague notion of who Dr. Dre was, but I had no idea who Jimmy Iovine was and that he had produced some of my favorite musicians.

Random Shit I've Been Watching Lately

A couple of movies I've somehow been able to watch lately...

Hesher:
The indie one of the bunch, one of those mixed genre, modern films.
Nice one.

Tolkien:
Nice one, used to love Tolkien books when I was a young kid.

Saints and Soldiers:
Nope, not at all... Don't even understand what they see on this one.

The Great Hack:
Maybe I'm a cynic but every single one of the discoveries from this documentary seems pretty obvious.

They All Laughed:
Not even Robby Müller's cinematography on am early 80's NYC helps on this one...

After a weekend with no movies, we had a jumbo sized one, a holiday upon a holiday... One of those Argentine inventions... And of course, it was filled with a very mixed bag of movies.

Barfly:
I watched -re-watched actually- this one, the GF slept thru this one out.
Guess I saw it 20 years ago or so.
As usual, Robby Müller's photography is amazing.

Prediction by Numbers:
A nice Netflix documentary, a mixed bag with just about everything.

Thunderheart:
A re-watch for me, first time for the GF.
Nice one, it aged really well.

Pet Sematary:
The new one, from this same 2019; which, I guess, is better than the fist movie but completely different than the original book.

Shazam!:
It was actually funny, not quite funny, but funny.

Sweet Mother of Jeebus!
We certainly watched a shitload of movies last weekend!
Winter, and specially a totally crappy cloudy and humid weather, certainly helps a lot.

When They See Us:
Got to see this one bt chance, I've tried to watch it earlier, but fell sleep.
We got to gulf down the thing in one go, and it was rather good.

She's So Lovely:
Wanted to re-watch (I guess?) this one for quite a while, back from the 90's when everyone was indie.
Did not liked it, it aged badly.

The Mean Season:
This one for the GF, who hates winter, so she has a glimpse of the brutal Miami summer.
Good movie, I haven't seen it in I don't know how many years, maybe 20.

Krampus:
The GF wanted to see this one, as she is on the quest of seeing every movie that Michael Dougherty made... Yes, he is the director of the last Godzilla movie, a flick that she loved, of course.

Dreadful Mirror

Man, what a magnificent way of destroying a franchise!
I loved Black Mirror right from the start (Link 1) and watched the following seasons (Link 2 & Link 3), but damn if the latest one is not a complete piece of stinking shit.
What a hell were they thinking? And only 3 episodes? I mean... C'mon, dudes! If you'are going to kill one of your best products, at least do it with some grandeur.

We watched quite a few movies this weekend, mostly due because it rained on Saturday (even tho it was really warm for this time of the year).

The Island Murder:
Another American Experience doc, but this one wasn't as interesting as the others I've seeing.
We Netflixed this one.

Godzilla Final Wars:
Slept thru most of it, but the GF loved, she is a hardcore jaiku fan, so, right... She'll obviously love this movie, and she is waiting eagerly for the Godzilla King of Monster movie that opens this month.

Vice:
Mighty good movie... Wanted to see this one for quite some time.
Both the GF and I loved this one.

Only one movie this weekend, we had a special belated anniversary dinner on Saturday and not much free time on Sunday, as we rode like maniacs on our bicycles.

The Circus:
An excellent PBS documentary, we Netflixed this one with the GF, not really convinced that we'll made thru the whole of it, but, as usual, American Experience never disappoints.

The Towering Inferno:
Man, it must been something like 20 years since the last time I've seen this one...
Stevie steals the show, as it should be.

Catwalk: Tales From The Cat Show Circuit:
We Netflixed this one, the GF is a cat freak, so I recommended this one eons ago, but we didn't get the time to watch it until last Sunday.
Nice documentary, full of beautiful and ridiculous looking cats.

Another weekend with just one movie... Lots and lots of sunshine and bicycle rides don't go along well with our movie watching.
Maybe the thing will change once the cold kicks in for good around here.

Not my thing, or maybe I was too tired... I did enjoyed Nightcrawler, way back when, tho.

Things are starting to get back on track, sort of... So, Sunday night we watched a movie with the GF.

Triple Frontier:
We Netflixed this one, I was expecting quite a lot more, really.
The IA that write the scripts on Netflix, based on its subscriptors likes and dis-likes got this one pretty damn good, but not great, IMHO.
Picking up with a cocktail of a lot of already seen action movies, with a great cast and a lot of money (both on screen as well as on the production).

Google Riffraff Credentials

So, I guess this is what happens when the Google user, the credentials, are different than the ones needed on a website.

The newest episode this week, luckily it was better than the last one we watched last weekend.
I still haven't lost faith on this one.

Another weekend, and another movie seen, or at least, some TV with the GF on Sunday night.
Heat was unbearable, just before the storm broke, so we watched a few things while we waited for the cold front to arrive.

Star Trek Discovery:
We watched this week episode on Netflix.
No, this season, at least so far, doesn't make it for me, too much melodrama for my taste.

Venom:
A total and complete meh.
Just another one of the bunch, if you haven't seeing it, skip it.

Another weekend with movies! Yay! Or maybe, not movies, but TV series and a documentary.

Star Trek Discovery:

We watched the two available episodes, I found these two a bit boring, compared to the one we saw last week.

It is a drag when it gets too philosophical.

Cool doc about something I didn't even knew it happened... Of course, the GF knew everything about it, acutally, she knows everything about absolutely everything...

Yes! We finally watched a movie (or something!) Summer makes it hard, yadda, yadda... But we finally did watched one, and something that we were waiting for quite sometime to see..


Star Trek Discovery:
The first episode from the second season, here in Argentina, Netflix has the rights to stream it, no need to get CBS All Acess, on of the few nice things about the Third World :p
It was a cool one, tho it gets a bit repetitive when it comes to the blurry and infant Spock, yes, we get it, he is and will be important on this season...
Nice to see that, as all the other early reviews noted, this Discovery got back on track to what TOS had to offer.
