It looks like the dreadful summer weather comes back to Bs. As., luckily I'm on my way out for my holidays... Also, wttr.in is back online.

Random Shit I've Been Watching Lately

Actually this is more like, "Random Netflix Shit I've Been Watching Lately"...

Narcos: Mexico:
Love this show, the first season was really good, but this one -and there might even be a pattern here...- it seems a bit too long.
For instance, the whole story of the member who wants to leva the gam ebehind seems quite longish.

Don't F*ck With Cats:
Pretty interesting doc, but, once again, IMHO, it is a bit too long.

Horse Girl:
A total and complete bullshit... What was the point of this????

Getting Things Ready

No matter what, come Saturday starts the Vacations 2020.
Seems like these aren't times to do anything except lock yourself on the basement, but what a hell... We've planned this months and months ago, so we go for this.

Composting (III)

The last one, I promise... At least for now.
And, yes, once again, a mix of banana peels and used tea leaves.
Doesn't look nice, but that pot is getting a hell of a quality of compost.

Movies During The Weekend

Yes! We managed to watch a movie during past weekend. It was really hard to actually see a damn movie with the GF during this summer... Lots of bike riding and asados.

Parasite:
Lovely movie, quite entertaining, suspenseful and with a lot of plot twists.

Saturday Night Asado

An amazing and mighty chicken with potatoes, carrots and (not pictured) chorizos bombón.
Summer is slowly dying around here, also, we are heading onto my holiday travel, so, this will be the last Saturday Night Asado for a while.

The Current Debian Desktop

Not much has changed this week... Switched to the Adapta Window Manager theme, and that's it.
I fucking love this setup and my Optiplex 755 + the Apple Cinema Display as my daily driver, comfy, practical and useful as hell.
As a side note, wttr.in has run out of available queries at the moment.

On The Dark Side of The Chrome

The GF got me onto this whole dark mode thing... I've played a bit with a couple of dark themes on Chrome before, but they put a bit of a strain on my crappy boxes, besides, they slowed a bit the browsing experience, so decided to wait until Chrome gets a native dark mode to use it day in day out.
Well, today out of the blue checked how was the native dark mode support on Linux doing, and lo and behold, it is here!

Launch Chrome like this:
/usr/bin/google-chrome-stable --force-dark-mode

But that is not enough. The Chrome interface will get dark, yes, but many, many websites will not.
In order to force a dark Chrome across the board, you'll also have to open the URL:

chrome://flags/

And set this two options:

Force Dark Mode for Web Contents -> Enabled
Prominent Dark Mode Active Tab Titles -> Enabled

Re-start Chrome to see the changes.

My Tangerines

Enough with the small tangerines I planted on the GF house...
This two pictures are from my tangerines, which -believe or not- are over a decade old, here is a post I made close to a decade ago, on March 2010: The Only Thing I Like About Summer.
The little buggers have been throw hell and high water over the years.

Sunday Night Pasta

Yes, the Sunday Night Pasta classic is back as well.
Magnificent raviolis with the GF Stew (an over the counter with some secret spices added mutant)  as well as boiled carrots and the only and the few carrots that survived the Saturday Night Asado; all of with a touch of grilled cheese.

The little experiment goes a bit further down the hole...
Once again, I have to put all the Bs. As. summer heat to good use, right?
Some banana peels along with used tea leaves, gross to say the least, will see how it goes...

Yes, not nano anymore, baby!
The transplanted ones are still going strong and with a lot of stamina.

Saturday Night Asado

Yes!! The Saturday night asado is back!
The GF came back, so, an asado was in order... Bife de chorizo, potatoes and carrots, everything BBQ'd with the greatest of love and care from yours truly.
It was a while since the last Saturday night asado, since the GF was away.

Random Shit I've Been Watching Lately

A couple of movies I've been watching lately, while the GF is away.

Powder:
A re-watch, it was a total bummer, don't even know I even bother to watch it once again.

Lone Star:
Love it, although it was a bit too longish, and, IMHO, it tried to hold too much.

The Report:
Started this one with the GF a couple of weeks ago, but we couldn't finish because of lack of time.
A good, modern one.

Midway:
The new one, the one that looks like video game, made on 2019.
A total crap.

The Host:
Maybe the best of the bunch, the GF suggested this one, she obviously loves it, and as a way of paving the way for seeing "Parasites".

American Me:
A re-watch, I recall this one from many, many years ago, I loved it when I saw it, guess around '93 or so.
But, it didn't made it for me... I was amazed by how many close ups they were on the movie.

Journey To The Edge Of The Universe:
Yeah, it is a nice enough doc, but nothing that seeing the original Cosmos wouldn't cover already, maybe with newer graphics and some recent discoveries, but the core of is essentially the same thing.

Bounce Back to Hell

Slowly but most definitively steady, temperature is rising once again.
The forecast for this Sunday says something like 35 degrees, so, yes, we're fucked once again.

Devuan Once Again

And so, just like that, it was time to go back to Devuan.
Selected the always trusty T60 and as usual, XFCE as the Desktop (onto of an encrypted setup).
The install went smooth as silk, and the system works A Ok, but that was what I was expecting, overall, I'd say that it feels just a little bit snappier than Debian on the same T60.

Spotty WiFi with The Wireless 4965 AG or AGN

The internet browsing experience on the little Dell M1330 was beyond awful, slow, intermittent, etc, a real PITA.
So a big of Google, and then, the magic started...
Had to edit the file:

/etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf
And then reboot the little lappie.
The file ended up like this:

[connection]
## wifi.powersave = 3
wifi.powersave = 2
So, a reboot later, and things look much, much better... Will keep testing for a couple of days to see how this goes.

Happy Gunk Keyboard

Well, someone had to do it and that someone was me...
Last Sunday afternoon took courage and disassembly my beloved Happy Hacking keyboard in order to clean it.
This was the second occasion I have to do such thing with my beloved keyboard.
It was working a bit flaky lately, especially the space bar, it sort of got stuck sometimes, or, other times, it required a heavy punch in order to actually work.
I'll spare the gore, not even a picture will be posted (and nor was taken) because it was gross, something out of this world that would probably make the late H. R. Giger puke his guts.
One thing to mention, tho, the keyboard it was a pleasure to work with, it took 8 screws to pull it open (one of those hidden beneath a sticker) but after that everything was kosher.

Finally, after struggling quite a bit with the web browser's top tabs, got used to the Panel on its upper position.
As usual, I love this effing setup.

A Weekend With The Boys

Nothing more than a Saturday afternoon burning some CPU cycles with the boys.

(No) Saturday Night Asado

The GF is away because of a little trip for a couple of weeks, so, there wasn't asado last weekend and it'll be no asado this one either.
The coals will have to wait for a while.

Summer at Full Blast

This has easily been, actually still is, since as I'm typing this at 9 PM, the temperature is still around 33 and the real feel is nearly 40 degrees Celsius...
The worst summer day in Buenos Aires I can remember.
Seems like the heat wave will end sometime tomorrow.

Yet Another Pair of Glasses

Last Monday picked up a new pair of glasses, this ones are for seeing "far", as opposed to all the other pairs I was using, to see "close".
I guess that is the official seal, I'm definitively old now.
Yet another thing to carry around with me all the time.

Yesterday started  with a little experiment on one of the pots I've recently cleared on the balcony at home.
Will see how this goes...
After all I have to put all of the sun and heat that the damn Buenos Aires summers has for us to do some good, right?
