Movies During The Weekend

A cool, relaxed weekend, in part because it rained like Hell on Saturday.
So, we did a bit of catch up, maybe forced, with a couple of TV shows.

Star Trek: Discovery:
We watched the two final episodes from Season 2, it was hard, but someone had to do it, I guess.
Not much to say about this, I guess... Except that, no, most definitively the last season doesn't do it, at all.

Project Blue Book:
I have been struggling with this one for the last 3 weeks, or so.
I'm a big fan of The X Files, at least of the mythological episodes; so I thought that this new series might be amazing, but it turned out to be quite dull and boring.
It was almost painful to go thru it.
A real shame, since it has everything to be fantastic.

The (Negative) X Files

Or returning for nothing...
I'm really amazed how bad the new season of X Files is turning...
I've seeing the first two episodes on cable (dubbed to Spanish, the horror! The horror!) and all the other episodes on the Fox Now Roku channel.
Really don't understand if you make only a six episode season, you don't use those six episodes to the mythology of the series, which, IMHO, is waht any other X Files might be waiting for...
Perhaps on the last episode things look up, but then again, if it does, we'll have to wait till the next season.

Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie, and a couple of TV episodes this time...
We had kinda of a special weekend with the GF, so, not much time to watch movies...

  • Goosebumps
A nice one, sort of Disneyesque movie.
I really like Jack Black.

  • The Leftovers
The first episode, don't know, I have to keep watching it in order to get a proper idea about this one...

  • The X Files
Yes, finally, I've watched (and sort of forced the GF to) the first two episodes of the reboot.
They were sort of cool, I just hope they keep the Monster Of The Week out of the reboot, or at least, they focus on more on the mythology episodes.

And so it goes the Seventh...

Last night finished re-watching X Files season seven.
Slowly but somehow steady I'm finally completing the whole re-watch.
Os course this season is definitively a downer, there is no going back.

And so it goes the Sixth...

By far the best episode was "Drive". or at least that was the one that got stuck with me.
The use of the new chemical suits, with the kino flo lights inside the helmets, along with the trademark flashlights was totally awesome.
Right now I'm on the seventh season, and if IIRC, this when the thing simply slopes dooooownnnn,

The Gibson Files

Another X Files classic...
The "one written by William Gibson", oh man, what a fantastic eposide!
From the Pris like female lead, and the duct taped laptop to the 90's VR gadgets.

I heard that it was a lone gunman

What a fantastic X Files episode!
And a magnificent example of the series cinematography as well.
I loved this episode the first time I saw it, re-watched it the other day for the first time in a decade or more.

This can't possibly be scientific

Going thru a little kind of a trance -to put it a name- these last couple of days.
Watching X Files and Fringe, back to back.
Damn all to hell, what a freaking amazing thing.
Anna... How on Earth can she be that beautiful?

Trust No DVI, Mr.Mulder

GNOME 3, with a huge display, and given the Thinkpad T410's speed, it does become a truly usable Desktop Environment.
But, even with the added speed and a better video card (than the T60p) I still think that GNOME 3 is not intended to be used with more than a handfull of apps open at the same time.

Incidentally, the old Apple Cinema Display is ideal to watch The X Files on it... Started to (re) watch Season Three during this weekend.

Like it was the X time (4)

Right in the middle of season 3.
So far the best episodes are, of course "Nisei" & "731", but boy I've enjoyed "Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose"...
This whole thing of re-watching The X Files from zero (first on DVD, and now on Netflix) is proving to be a remarkable thing.

Like it was the X time (3)

Season two is history.
By far the best episode, IMHO, is End Game.
The image of that submarine tower is amazingly powerful; which reminiscence to "Firefox" and "Ice Station Zebra".

Like it was the X time (2)

First season is gone...
Damn I'm getting old it is like seeing the second entirely for the first time.
Cinematography's on season 2 looks amazing, they went full ahead ball out with it.

Like it was the X time

I'm sort of re-watching the X Files' first season, but this time on DVD; I find that whole Netflix thing rather stupid, unless you have to watch something that you positively can't find anywhere else.
It is actually like seeing the whole thing for the first time, it's been such a long, long time...
So far my favorites are The Jersey Devil and E.B.E..

Movies over the weekend

Not much, really... Some The Office episodes, right now on the fifth season which doesn't seem to be as funny as the previous ones.
Also netflixed the first (the pilot) episode of The X Files... By Jeebus, to see that once again... Guess last time I saw it must have been 10 years ago or so. Everybody was so young, and everything seemed so old... Except, of course, Gillian Anderson.
