Movies During The Weekend

Only one movie this weekend, we had a special belated anniversary dinner on Saturday and not much free time on Sunday, as we rode like maniacs on our bicycles.

The Circus:
An excellent PBS documentary, we Netflixed this one with the GF, not really convinced that we'll made thru the whole of it, but, as usual, American Experience never disappoints.

PBS Galore!

A lot, and I really mean a lot, of work this god damn week.
Nevertheless, I made time to somehow watch three docs, two of those from PBS thru the little Roku that still delivers.

The Race Underground
An American Experience doc, it was good, but then again, while telling the background of the main story, it sort drifts away for quite a while... IMHO it might have been fantastic, if the doc were a bit longer.

Oklahoma City
Another American Experience doc, this one is longer than "The Race Underground", so, all the necessary background info, and the time it takes to develop that story, pays off in the end.
Really good doc.

Gimme Danger
The story of The Stooges, as told by none other than Jim Jarmusch.
Mighty good stock footage, Iggy is sort of a blonde walkin' ruin.

PBS Glory On Roku

Roku's PBS channel got a fantastic update this week.
The whole thing looks pretty slick, flat, modern and somehow hip.
I can only wish they would not pull the full feature videos they have as fast as they do!
Nevertheless, compared to the atrocity of the Crackle channel (which updated something like 3 months ago and ever since stopped working) the PBS channel is a true heaven sent.

(Super) Nova Night

Last night there were three docs in a row...

• First Man on the Moon

Specially interesting to watch the outcome of the failed Gemini mission.

• Rise of Drones

Pretty good, specially the story of the first prototypes.

• 3D Spies of WWII

Amazing, specially the making of the scale model based on the stereoscopic reconnaissance photographs.

These alone justify the whole Roku thing.
