Cannibalizing a Palm-rest For The X220i

Actually, more than cannibalizing it was re-using...
So., it is time to replace the palm rest on the little and beloved x220i, the original one was broken, with the whole piece of plastic just below the touch-pad missing, it can be seeing on this link.
So, I got the old one, the original that came with the x220, and slapped onto the x2201, no problems whatsoever, except that I had to tape shut what was the fingerprint scanner.

Ménage à Trois

Taken last night, what you might call a heavy duty night.

The Dell is connected thru HDMI to the TV while watching Ken Burns The Vietnam War, the T420 is the general purpose one and the X220 hanging around the with the bunch.

Upgrading The X220

Taken last night.
The X220 got a new palm rest, the little that lappie that delivers gets better and better!
Next step, changing the hinges, compared to changing the palm rest, that would be a major PITA/ task.

Getting back to Chromium...

Actually, is more like getting back to Chrome, which I hate a lot, I'm a Firefox kinda guy and has been for the last couple of years...
But, due to the fact that I have to use my newly acquired Chromecast, Chrome is in more than in order, like a do or die situation...

These are the instructions to install it.

Fucked ^ WiFi After Suspending?

This has been driving me utterly and fucking nuts for the last couple of weeks...
You suspend your lappie, and when you bring it back to life, WiFi doesn't seem to work, or, if it does, you either can't connect to your favorite network, or just can't even find your favorite network at all.
Seems to be a problem that sort of kills WiFi (pretty certain might be a kernel module that goes FUBAR), I've noticed this on different hardware (for instance on the X140e and the X220) and on different Linux Mint versions.
The solution seems pretty simple, I logout from my session before suspending the lappie, so far, it works like a charm, WiFi works A Ok once it comes back from Suspend and I login onto my user.
It might be a PITA having to close all open stuff and logout, but, personally I tend keep nothing up & running on a lappie running on batts unless its a necessity.

Well... To me both of them work rather well...
Old School, circa T410 & X220, have the advantage of a huge Delete & Esc keys, yes... But I hate where the Page Up and Page Down keys are on those keyboards...
So, since I'm using the X220 now, I swapped those keys with the Page Frwrd and Page Back.
To do so, simply added this:

setkeycodes e049 159 e051 158 e069 109 e06a 104

to the /etc/rc.local file.

Upgrade For The Little Monster

Got a nice, brand new, keyboard and battery (extra large) for the X220.
Yes indeed, this is the beginning of a fruitful and long relationship with the little (but powerful) X220...

Linux Mint 18 on the Thinkpad X220

So, yes, installed Linux Mint 18, Cinnamon, on the the X220.
I say God Damn!
I've read a lot about the little laptop, but, hell, the MF flyes!
Pretty sure this is going to be a great lappie and I'll have a helluva time burning it to the ground...

A New (Little) Monster Rises

Yesterday got a somehow nice deal on a used X220.
Wanted something portable, to replace the T60p, the lappie I use whenever I have to go to a client's office or site.
The T60p is still amazing, but it is starting to show its age... Have to open up to oil the fan a couple of times (it refuses to boot otherwise) and, of course, its 32 bits, so only has 3 GB of RAM, and last but not least, it uses old school headphones, with different connectors for the headphones and the mic.
Will see where this little lappie goes...
