A New Adventure Begins

Debian on the newest of the new... The X201T
Installed it last night, on a plain vanilla HDD (the one that came with the Macbook Pro back in the good old days, before The Plague, when humans roamed free around the globe).
Will how this goes, etc, etc.
The idea is to replace the trusty and beloved Optiplex 755 as my daily driver with the X201T, as well as getting rid of the Apple Cinema Display, in order to get a bit more table real estate.

The current Linux Mint desktop

What the MacBook Pro looks like as of today.
A bit of dark, with a slightly lighter background and colorful icons (Numix).

Juggling RAM Around (2)

Time for another RAM swapping...
This time took RAM from the T430 and slapped onto the MBP, and vice versa.
The T430 lost 4 and the MBP got 4, both seem to be just fine.

Un-busted Tango

As of yesterday, The Crack In The LCD Continuum Is No More.
Will see how this goes, etc. etc. etc.

Hardware problems.

Couple of hardware problems around here...
The crack on the MacBook Pro LCD is getting bigger, what a fucking bummer! It is now affecting the "lighted" portion of the screen, not just the black bezel.
Damn, damn and damn...

The other one is that the T60p keyboard is acting really funky, pressed keys aren't actually being typed... A major PITA, as I can't type my password.
I'm afraid I'll have to replace it with the keyboard from the T60.

Maybe both lappies are starting to show its age and usage, particularly the T60p.

The current Linux Mint desktop

Haven't posted one of this in quite a long time... And I really mean a long time... I tend to forget lately, and I'm not much onto window shopping these days.
As a bonus, a picture of my beloved MBP.

VirtualBox: The Updated Problem

There was a problem with Monday's updates for Virtualbox on Linux Mint.
Once installed, they blew things up rather violently, depending on your setup, you could either end up with a box that couldn't login (via the graphical login manager) or (my case) with a box that wasn't able to run programs.
Right after installing this update on the MacBook Pro programs (some of them, not every single one) refused to load, and those that didn't they didn't even produce an error message, really annoying, right?

In the end, the fix for the update shenanigans was pretty easy to do, but the really cool thing is that Linux Mint released a fix for this update right the same day.

A Crack In The LCD Continuum

A bad close up of the bump and cracked LCD from the MacBook Pro.
I've taped it to prevent the crack from spreading, but I guess it doesn't do shit.
At least I didn't do it, it was like this when I got it.

Traveling Tango

The first time (at least with me) that the MacBook Pro leaves the house and goes on the road.
So far, so good.

Vacation Hardware 2018

Got a (shitty) (powered) USB Hub for the MacBook Pro yesterday, 20 bucks at Best Buy.
The lack of USB ports is one of the biggest flaws of the little lappie.

Switch The Command with The Option Key

Damn! I've spent hours and hours researching how to fix this... And the answer is so damn simple!

Ever since I've started to use the little MacBook Pro, I was desperate with the placement of the Command (Super or Windows) key and the Option (Alt) key on it's lovely and sturdy keyboard, it turns out that on Apple is inverted compared to my Thinkpads and my Happy Hacking keyboard, so, muscle memory and all, and I was about to cut my fingers.

I've tried every trick, snippet and configuration option and recipe that both setxkbmp and xmodmap had in store, to no avail...

But the solution is as simple as executing this on a sudo su - Terminal:

echo "1" > /sys/module/hid_apple/parameters/swap_opt_cmd

That line changes everything and makes the little aluminum lappie completely and totally usable.

The current Linux Mint desktop

A lot of time since I've post a screenshot here on dear ole Oesediez...
This is the one I'm using on the new Macbook Pro, nothing fancy, a plain Adapta + Numix icons setup beauty.
Life is good.

The Apple Glitch Is Fixed

Or so its seems at the moment...
Well the thing is working now, I mean Suspend on the "new" MacBook Pro.
Turns out you need to run:

echo LID0 > /proc/acpi/wakeup
echo XHC1 > /proc/acpi/wakeup

And, on top of that, I've discovered that the MacBook Pro can't Suspend with the lid open, it is mandatory to close it once you suspended the lappie.

Degunking The MacBook Pro

A Little Glitch with The Apple

Well, Houston we have a problem.
The "new" MacBook Pro refuses to Suspend (and Hibernate)... This is a major PITA.
I'm researching what the hell is the problem, pretty certain I'll have to install from scratch.

The Return of Cupertino

Well, I got a couple of lappies yesterday.

A relative of mine, from beyond the Atlantic and above the Equator, came to Bs. As. and brought with him old laptops from the First World ;)
Long story short, I got a Macbook Pro and a Macbook.
I parted from Apple, my late MacBook Pro, on more than six years ago, but, I also wanted an Apple lappie for quite sometime (I was desperate to even consider getting a PPC one...), not to use Os X (not for me, not right now), but to run Linux; the thing is, I love the metal, one piece chassis, zero flexing, sturdy and nice looking beast.

Simply removed the SSD (along with the RAM) from the little lappie that delivers, the X140E, and installed on the new MacBook Pro, booted, and everything just worked, just like that, magic, man... Pure fucking Linux Magic.

The little lappie had one the LCD corners bumped and the glass of the screen its a bit chaffed as well.
