Weather Nirvana, sort of

"Crappy" days like today serve the purpose of remind me that eventually, the summer will die... Being below 30 degrees is a victory itself.

The usual lower suspects

The weather has been really nice these last couple of days.
As usual, my friend the Weather Widget tends to get a little over the top with regard to lower temperatures, but that's Ok, I still consider him a friend of the family.

I can only wish

Yeah, right... Minus 7 degrees Celsius tomorrow Tuesday...

Apple's Weather Widget is still getting its values from God knows where for Buenos Aires.

Weather discrepancies

I still don't get why Apple's Weather Widget gets so fu-bared values regarding the weather, at least, for Buenos Aires... It looks like they were pulling the data from God knows where, instead of a reliable source.

The lows are really, but really, screwed up; the highs seems to be Ok, or at least, not totally offbeat.

Hopefully

With a bit of luck, we'll be having a fucking tough Thursday & Friday, and, then it looks like we are home free.
As usual, the Weather Widget shows highs that are not really believable.

Apple get your sh*t together & on time

I really don't understand why Apple gives a real flying fuck about the time zone changes South of the Rio Grande.
Of the four different times displayed on the Widgets, the only correct is the one for Miami (and the one on Buenos Aires is working because I have disabled the time sync via ntpd), all the others are showing incorrect times.

I guess we are not that important on the whole picture, but nevertheless, how complicated can be to release updates for this?

Vacation weather

The trip goes on and on...

Boston right now, and for the last few days, I haven't being more effing cold in my effing life, the place -during winter at least- is amazing.

Meanwhile, in the old and beloved Bs. As. the temperature will be near 37 degrees today; followed with the occasional thunderstorm and "drop" on the temperature that follows.

Dark themes ins & out

Its back to a dark theme time for me, baby.

But this time, using the hot icon set of the moment, Eikon, a package of really nice looking icons that go hand in hand with dark colored themes, they have sort of a Leopardish touch, but just a hint.

This weather icon is terrific looking, specially for the current conditions.

One thing I have noticed, using Dark themes, specially DarkRoom, is that the default skin/ theme of VLC looks particularly dull, specially the control buttons.

The current Ubuntu desktop

Nothing much changed since the last one, I'm pretty much happy with Human Tiger & the cool brown wallpaper, but this desktop includes the Ubuntu's version of the Dashboard Widget, the Screenlets!

I re-install this!

There are a lot of "I use this" post, sites, lists, etc (Or even the site). So, this is my list! :D
Since I have re-installed Tiger on Trantor exaclty a month ago, I have made a list of the Apps & Widgets I like to keep around when I move from box to box.
Of course, the basics are all there (Emacs, SSH, rsync) but these are the ones I add, or at least, the very first ones I need no matter what.

Widgets:

Harmonic
Watchmouse  (I have already posted about this one, here)
IP Subnet Calculator
UNIX Permissions Calculator

Apps:

Menu Calendar Clock
MenuMeters
Adium
Temperature Monitor
Seashore
Chmox
MyMind

The thing with the battery (2)

Back to the bare bones future
Yesterday re-installed Os X on my PB, did that because I wanted of get rid of some crud I deleted the hard way, for instance, extra languages, Garage Band (and all the loops); but I wanted to do it the proper way.
Also, I wanted to test if getting back to the oldest Os X version I could easily get my hands on would, eventually help me a bit with the battery problem I'm having.. (It didn't... The damn battery is totally dead, it doesn't charge at all)
And lastly, I wanted to change the file system I was using on the PB, switched to "Case-sensitive, Journaled", since I was having a bit of problem copying some file from Thor, because of the case sensitivity; really not a biggie, stuff things like Harmonic lyrics.

So, popped the DVD #1, and re-intalled Os X, no surprises there, everything silk smooth.
Like I said, my battery, which I babysitted since I got the PB, and it only has 26 cycles going, according to System Profiler...

The summer... How nice

And we are having yet another one of those beautiful summer days in the city... If we are a little lucky, tomorrow will rain and the temperature will drop a bit.
I desperately want the winter to come once again.
