Forticlient SSL: apt-get Problems

A little issue I stumble upon on the X220 after installing the Forticlient SSL VPN client... Not a biggie, but annoying...

Forticlient 64 bits on Ubuntu 16.04

As part of the migration to Xenial Xerus on my Thinkpad X140e, I had to install the Forticlient SSL client no matter what, as I use it a lot for work related stuff.
I had to deal with this a couple of times already...
This time things went somehow smooth:

sudo dpkg -i forticlient-sslvpn_4.4.2313-1_amd64.deb
Selecting previously unselected package forticlient-sslvpn.
(Reading database ... 182887 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to unpack forticlient-sslvpn_4.4.2313-1_amd64.deb ...
Unpacking forticlient-sslvpn (4.4.2313-1) ...
dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of forticlient-sslvpn:
 forticlient-sslvpn depends on lib32gcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1); however:
  Package lib32gcc1 is not installed.
 forticlient-sslvpn depends on libc6-i386 (>= 2.3.4); however:
  Package libc6-i386 is not installed.

Installed without much fuss, but, stupid me, forgot to issue a dry run first...
Any ways... The Forticlient work A Ok after this (go figure), but the dkpg message seemed a bit ominous and annoying...

First things firt, let's try with the damn dependency error:

sudo apt-get install libc6-i386

dpkg: error processing package forticlient-sslvpn (--install):
 dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
Processing triggers for gnome-menus (3.13.3-6ubuntu3) ...
Processing triggers for desktop-file-utils (0.22-1ubuntu5) ...
Processing triggers for bamfdaemon (0.5.3~bzr0+16.04.20160415-0ubuntu1) ...
Rebuilding /usr/share/applications/bamf-2.index...
Processing triggers for mime-support (3.59ubuntu1) ...
Errors were encountered while processing:
 forticlient-sslvpn

No luck!

So I gave a shot a refreshing the packages:

$ sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these.
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 forticlient-sslvpn : Depends: lib32gcc1 (>= 1:4.1.1) but it is not installed
Depends: libc6-i386 (>= 2.3.4) but it is not installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try using -f.

Error!
And this was right after a fresh install of Xenial...
Issued a:

$ sudo apt-get -f install
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
Correcting dependencies... Done
The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
  guile-2.0-libs libexiv2-14 libgc1c2 libgexiv2-2 libqqwing2v5 libraw15
Use 'sudo apt autoremove' to remove them.
The following additional packages will be installed:
  lib32gcc1 libc6-i386
The following NEW packages will be installed:
  lib32gcc1 libc6-i386
0 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 4 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 2,381 kB of archives.
After this operation, 10.6 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y

And presto, problem solved.

Forticlient 64 bits on Ubuntu 14.04 (2)

Installed the 64 bits Forticlient SSL on the Thinkpad W530, no biggie, except that this time, after installing ir, and without the need to install the "lib32gcc1" package, I got an apt-get error, that force me to do a:

colossus > sudo apt-get -f install

The following NEW packages will be installed:
  lib32gcc1 libc6-i386
0 upgraded, 2 newly installed, 0 to remove and 12 not upgraded.
1 not fully installed or removed.
Need to get 2,253 kB of archives.
After this operation, 10.0 MB of additional disk space will be used.
Do you want to continue? [Y/n] y

After that, everything seems to be A Ok, even after a reboot, and of course, the Forticlient SSL works ok as well.

Forticlient 64 bits on Ubuntu 14.04

Or good bye ia32-libs-gtk...
In the past, on Linux Mint (64 bits) I used to (sort of) simply install the 32 bits compatibility libs and be done with...
But, on Ubuntu (64 bits) that didn't work...
Thing is I need the VPN client for connecting to different work related data centers, no matter what, I need the program, and I need it to work A Ok.
Luckily, I found this page: Forticlient – SSLVPN .deb packages
Installed forticlient-sslvpn_4.4.2313-1_amd64.deb and it works flawlessly.
Had to install lib32gcc1 prior in order to get the dpkg correctly installed.

sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1
sudo dpkg -i forticlient-sslvpn_4.4.2313-1_amd64.deb

Installing Forticlient SSL on Linux Mint 17 (XFCE)

Another instalment of the eternal Forticlient installation woes on various Linux distros, this time Linux Mint 17, the FXCE variant, 32 bits.

It is really not that complicated, specially since this is on a 32 bits distro.

The plain vanilla installer won't work, since there isn't an Xterm installed (and I don't want to install one).

So, first things first, make the directory where the Forticlient will be installed:

sudo mkdir /usr/local/bin/forticlientsslvpn

And the copy the "forticlientsslvpn" and the directory "helper" to the above directory.
Move to the helper directory:

cd /usr/local/bin/forticlientsslvpn/helper

And edit the file "setup.linux.sh" and comment the line 12, and add a new one just below that looks like this:

xfce4-terminal -e "$0" Save the file.

Execute the installer, that is, execute the file

/usr/local/bin/forticlientsslvpn/forticlientsslvpn

It will ask your password, display a License Agreement scrollable banner, type "Yes" at the end of it.
After that a pop will tell you that installation (the Set up) failed, click Ok and forget about it.
Everything will work A Ok, this has been tested with FortiClient SSL VPN 4.0.2068 on a LM 17 32 bits with all the updates installed as of today.

Installing Forticlient SSL on Linux Mint (64 bits)

I need to use this rather crappy VPN client one to connect to a couple of an associate data centers.
These is are the steps to install the Fortigate SSL Client on Linux Mint Maya.
As usual, unpack it and execute the installer:
usul > ./forticlientsslvpn
./forticlientsslvpn: error while loading shared libraries: \
libgtk-x11-2.0.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
It'll fail, so, install the 32 bits libraries:
usul > sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-gtk

Reading state information... Done
Note, selecting 'ia32-libs' instead of 'ia32-libs-gtk'

Once that is up & done, simply give the installer one more try:
./forticlientsslvpn
/usr/local/bin/forticlientsslvpn/.//helper//setup.linux.sh: line 11: \
/usr/local/bin/forticlientsslvpn/.//helper/forticlientsslvpn.install.log: Permission denied
/usr/local/bin/forticlientsslvpn/.//helper//setup.linux.sh: line 12: \
xterm: command not found
It'll fail once again, because by default there is no xterm installed on Linux Mint MATE 13.
Edit the file setup.linux.sh, comment the line:
## xterm -e "$0" 2
And add this line, just below the one commented:
        gnome-terminal -e "$0" 2
Then execute the installer:
./forticlientsslvpn
The first time you execute it there is a splash screen, the reason this thing wanted to use xterm.
After that there might be a menacing pop up informing the installation failed, but its crap, simply continue and be happy.
