Finally The Kindle Gets A Nice Unmount

Installed a huge update on the Kindle the other day, no biggie at the moment, or so I thought, it mostly added one of those "social thingies" that allows you to share stuff about what you are reading, etc...
But today, after charging it, noticed another amazing thing... Lo & behold, this update also fixed the un-mount bug that has been effing up things since the Kindle Touch days.

The Yearly Kindle Tradition

It seems like a tradition now.
It is the third year on a row that I got a Kindle towards the end of the year.
In 2012 it was a Kindle Touch 3G, then a year later, sold that one, and got a Kindle Paperwhite 2.
Yesterday got a Kindle Touch for my GF, the newest one, the one that offers, once again, 4 GB of HDD storage.

Hammer & Zombies

Finished Lucifer's Hammer a couple of day ago, and got to see World War Z last night.
Amazing how fast on both the book as well as the zombie film civilization collapses.

Last Friday got my hands on the new Kindle Paperwhite, the new version.
I love it, the screen is simply amazing, and the thing is ultra hyper lightweight, compared with the Kindle Touch.
Got the version sans 3G, since I've hardly use it with the Kindle Touch, besides, browsing with a Kindle its a royal PITA.
INTOH, the new Kindle Paperwhite has the same problem unmounting the device that the Kindle Touch had.

Bye Bye Touch

Yesterday got rid fo my Kindle Touch.
It served me good for close to a year, used it to read about a dozen books or so.
But. lately I've been reading more and more on the Nexus 7, and also I'm really tempted to get a Paperwhite.

Hammering Lucifer

Well, I've finished the last Bowden one, at least for now.
It wasn't as good as it originally promised, but it was entertaining nevertheless.
Got my hands on Lucifer's Hammer, still on really, really early stage right now... will see...
For the little I've read, it looks like a Peyton Place spin off, hope it speeds up really soon.

Another Bowden... (once again)

I've discover this book last Wednesday, jump right onto it.
Your usual straight no BS Bowden book, I love it, about 40% read so far.
A nice recount of the history of the internet, been a while since I've read an history book on the subject, this one stands on some very good ones dealing with the subject, like "Where Wizards Stay Up Late", "The Cuckoo's Egg" & "Cyberpunk", all of those I've read years and years ago.

Spannungsbogen and all, I finally got it, and I've just finished reading it.
This might be, IIRC, the fourth Bowden book I read, still find his books well written, entertaining and interesting.
Not quite sure what to read now, I have a huge queue waiting on the Kindle.

Make room for the Soylent Green

Last night finished reading "Make Room, Make Room".
It was nice, but I was truly shocked by how much it differs from the "Soylent Green" movie.
A really, really dystopian and bleak look at what the year 1999 might have been.

Primo

Last night finished "Survival In Auschwitz", the US version of Primo Levi's "Se questo è un uomo".
Pretty disturbing to say the least, but somehow easy to read.
Came upon it by total chance, about a month ago or so I stumbled onto "Primo" while channel surfing the lousy cable programming, and got totally hooked on the play.
I had to read the book.

The Finish (Once again)

Haven't read much lately.
A little problem on my left eye knocked me out for a couple of weeks, and also, of course, lots & lots of work to be deal with...
But, I had a chance to get back on track this week, and finally got my eyes on another book.
For the moment I've left Mitchell's Japan, for a more recent affair.
This is the second book I get my hands on dealing with the subject... But Bowden's one is way better.

Today I've finished Black Swan Green, I've loved it
I'm really, really tempted to jump right onto the last Mitchell book I have "The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet".

More Mitchell, more reading...

Finished "Cloud Atlas" a couple of days ago, and after re-reading it a bit, jumped right onto another of Mitchell's books, Black Swan Green.
This one doesn't seem to have a chapter written in post apocalyptic hawaiian lingo.
I freaking love the Kindle, I'm reading a lot, but I mean a lot lot more, since I got it last December.

Soylent Green is Soap!

Currently reading it, about 80% done.
I simply love it.
The mixed genre is amazing, I particularly love Gibson's influences on the chapter "An Orison of Sonmi~451", and the Hawaii post-ap setting for "Sloosha's Crossin' an' Ev'rythin' After" (although that has been the most difficult thing I've read in English so far).
I want to see how it delivers on the cinema.

Right after the one on the killing of UBL, got my hands on this one, my third electronic book, Generation Kill.
I've seen the HBO mini series, but the book seems more gripping.
It sort of might be like a Jarhead, but for the Second Gulf War.

Last night finished "The Finish".
The third book I read from Bowden, even tho there are some negative and there is a general feeling of mixed reviews on its Amazon page, I found it really good and entertaining.

It took me a while, but I finally finished reading my first ebook during the weekend.
Tho it isn't considered as one of Ambrose's best books I found it really useful and interesting.

Still ebooking

Been using the Kindle Touch for a little over a month now.

I love it, but I have to say that I didn't read more after I got it, pretty much I read the same than before getting it.
One thing I certainly got are new books, some of those I'm pretty sure I wouldn't otherwise get if it wasn't for the KT.

Played quite a bit with the 3G as well and some WiFi browsing too, but the built in (experimental) browser is pretty much useless to deal with a plain vanilla website of nowadays; but ITOH, for reading Wikipedia (for which you can access thru 3G from anywhere) it is really nice, specially with its "article mode".

I only charged thru my T60p something like three times since I bought it, but I still get the dreadful pop up error message that I got after the first charge.

Ebooking

Got a somehow nice deal on a brand new Kindle Touch 3G, so I went ahead and finally got an ebook last Monday...
I've tried using my BB as an ebook of sorts in the past, but it is nearly useless and übber cumbersome to do so.
Didn't have much time to play around with it yet, except that I plugged it onto my Linux Mint Maya, and, after I've calibre'd onto .mobi about 60 of my books, copied those to the KT.
There were no problems at all, except for a little error message pop up when unmounting the KT, but didn't affect anything at all.
The free 3G link works A Ok in Buenos Aires, but obviuosly it is only good for browsing the Amazon website of Wikipedia.
