Lubuntu on the Inspiron 1000
Time to dust off the trusty (and freaking old) Inspiron 1000...
Made the install on a 20 GB HDD, with 256 MB of RAM (the Inspiron has a Celeron @2.20 GHz).
It is barely usable (it took forever to install the updates right after the install), but I wanted to give it a shot, in order to get a taste of how Lubuntu performs and looks on my (really, really) ancient and under powered lappies.
Pros:
- Lightweight (Doh!)
- Looks rather nice
- Cursors are a piece of cake to configure like I want them
- Somehow easy to remap the CAPS LOCK key to CRTL
- Easy to configure in general
Cons:
- Windows are square, in the 4 corners
To Be Done:
- Setup global Emacs keybindings
- Remove the username from the login window
