Lucid Lynx on a Compaq F700 (again)

I'm in the process of re-installing my Linux laptops (once again).
On the beloved, but very much noisy and flimsy, Tango, Ubuntu as already noted, runs veeeeeryyyy smoothly on the laptop.
This time around I'm installing on the 250 GB HDD I've pulled out from the MBP beauty, this time around I'm setting up an encrypted $HOME.
So far, haven't notice any special delay on the day to day use.

The fight continues...

Yeap, I still have this damn thing going around my head, I can't get it out of it... I simply hate the I-Beam cursor, there is no other way around that...
A couple of more links I've stumble upon the matter

Dream of a better doc

Last night saw the Patti Smith documentary, boy what a bummer that was.
I love Patti Smith, I think I have all her records, but the doc was a total let down, it looks like, even tho they took a decade to make it, like they have used only the scraps for the actual documentary.

The fight against IBeam goes on (and on...)

Couple of (more) link regarding the dreaded iBeam replacement:

Cursor Theme,鼠标指针的主题
Cursor Theme,鼠标指针的主题(2)
Theming,theming,theming!!!

Those are, obviously, in Chinese :D
It looks like cobranail has gone far onto the subject, but on Tiger...

Why, why Apple??? Why on Earth you make this hard to simply customize an already existing cursor icon? I don't want to add new ones, nor animate them, nor make them things that you wouldn't aprobe... I just want to replace the fucking IBeam with the plain vanilla arrow!

Su Mystery Theater (24)

The first -regular- updates I install on the Macbook Pro, aside, of course, from the very first ones installed after the initial installation...
So far things seem to be just dandy after the reboot.

The fight against IBeam goes on

Last night hit Google hard searching for a solution to this, I simply fucking hate the IBeam piece of crap icon!
The cursor icon set is hard coded, there is no way around that, or so it seems; the trick with Terminal's own IBeam is just a tease, to to the same globally, there is no other option than to (HEX) edit the CoreGraphics file... Boy, that looks like a lot fun... Fuck me.
These links are old, solutions that once worked... Well, it looks like it is going to be a funny next couple of days...

Cursor in CoreGraphics in 10.4
Cursor para zurdos
Help me find default cursor
NOOB trying to change Cursor: Mac os x 10.5.6
OSX Cursors location found
Editor Hexadecimal para Mac: Solucionado

Also, there is this safety net, which is exactly the opposite than the above... Or is it? Installing a haxie, for a different OS version, doing nasty symlink stuff, and all of that to use a product from a company (Unsanity) that seems to be closed...

Unsanity's Mighty Mouse DOES work on leopard !, Easy Hack
Leopard and non native crypto libraries

Why the hell does Apple make this hard to do such a trivial thing?

Small potatoes? Big cursors!

Being heavy using the MBP for the last days...
There are a couple of things, not really big ones, that are driving me totally fucking crazy, actually, it is more like only one...

I don' t effing understand why the fuck I can't set the mouse cursor the way I like it, the people at Apple should really make this somehow available, I can't believe that this advanced Operating System doesn't allow you to do something at stupid and trivial as setting up the mouse cursor the way you want it...

I was using Unsanity's Mighty Mouse, but it doesn't work on Snow Leopard (and the folks at Unsanity don't look the least eager to make the damn program to work on SL...).

I don't want anything strange regarding the damn cursors, matter of fact, I don't even want new cursors, I just want to freaking customize the ones the system has, I totally effing hate the one called "I-Beam"; at least, on Snow Leopard's Terminal I could change it the same way I did on previous versions of Os X, it is little, but it is something... Once again:

Fuck you (un-customizable) I-Beam!!

The new Trantor

Last Friday switched to the MBP for good, been installing programs and testing stuff over the weekend, this is by far, the best laptop I had.
It is amazing the response it has, the snappiness is out of this world.

This is what I've installed so far...
Adium
iChm
Remote Desktop Connection
Skype
Tunnelblick
VirtualBox
VLC

Snow Leopard seems very good, but I prefer the Tiger (or for that matter, Panther) GUI.

Prima SU for the MBP

So, here is it, breaking the cherry, if you will ;)
The first one is by far the biggest update I have ever dloaded in my life... Nearly 1 GB of stuff, the people at Apple doesn' t care about bandwidth.

New lappy!

Finally got it.
A Macbook Pro 13", Core 2 Duo, 2.53 GHz, 4 GB RAM, the little MF flies.
The picture is nothing but awful, but at the moment I'm testing OS after OS to see which one will be the primary one on the laptop.

Summer, what can I say?

Just how beautiful it is to have him around us once again!
Please feel free to stay until the end of next May, be sure to bring along your world class & hideous humidity and, of course, the awful city smells.

(Still) Lusting for a new lappie

Yeap, I'm still on the look for a new, faster -I want to use one of those with "cores"- and able to hold bazillions of MB of RAM) laptop... Specially now that I sold my late PowerBook.
The one that jump started this whole thing it is just a memory, I know for a fact that I'll turn itself to shit before a year went by...
At the moment I'm considering either a Thinkpad T510 or a Macbook Pro (13").
I like the Apple because of the full metal body, but I'm pretty sure I won't use Os X this time around, Ubuntu... Ubuntu...

Taking apart the Inspiron 1000

By Jeebus, that little MF was a mess of gunk on the inside... Really disgusting stuff.
It was sort of easy to dismantle it, the worst part was the upper keyboard panel, and removing the monitor from its hinges, a really scary thing to pry the monitor cable off; besides that, simply "unscrew and keep track" kinda business.
Happy to say the laptop is up and working as usual, and, even tho all the gunk removed, still busting my balls with the running fan.
